About The Event

Tomihari Woodblock Artist

Living Japanese National Treasure

It was through a Geographe Bay Rotary club visit to the Town of Sugito in 1995 that a fortuitous meeting with renowned woodblock artist Tomihari took place. That introduction led to an exhibition, and workshops being held in Busselton and in Perth that same year.

Discussions were already underway about the possibility of a sister city relationship between Sugito and Busselton and Mr Tomihari played a significant role in these initial negotiations.

Mr Tomihari, whose works are also in major collections around the world, gifted over 25 of his modern “moku hanga” style woodcuts to the people of Busselton. These artworks are now part of the permanent City of Busselton art collection.

These woodblock prints have been gifted to the City of Busselton, and are on exhibit from August 17 to September 5th as part of the South West Japan Festival.

Please check opening hours.
