Step back in time into a mysterious Old Blacksmith’s workshop, where we will gather to make a special kurinuki (carved out) ceramic box.
Learn about the traditional technique of Kurinuki and a little bit about the history, thinking and methods of Japanese ceramics.
This workshop is an immersive experience! While you create, you will find yourself surrounded by traditional Japanese music, there will be sushi, matcha tea, and wagashi (Japanese sweets), and even a background slideshow of Japanese landscapes.
Using a special blend of stoneware clay we will use the traditional Japanese technique of kurinuki (to carve out) a lidded box form. All clay and tools will be provided. The completed boxes will then be dried, glazed and fired by Shelley for you to collect at her studio in Margaret River or to have posted to your home (shipping costs additional).
